Kennebec is a good flavoured, excellent textured, white skinned potato. It produces high yields and matures medium to late season. When harvested as a new potato it has a firm texture that is especially nice in potato salads and excellent for fries, chips, baking or hash browns. Also, all potatoes are very high in potassium. "These potatoes are good for baking. They don't hold up well when you boil them," said Kurt Kaiser. He also explains that Kennebec potatoes yield more crop per plant than the Yukon Gold. The best time to dig potatoes from the soil is mid-July, when they are a good size. When planting potatoes for the next season, Kaiser plants in September. |
